What is it?
The Kia Forward Collision Avoidance (FCA) is here for your safety. There are two different settings, forward collision warning and forward collision assist. The FCA warning will beep and alert the driver that a possible collision is ahead. The FCA assist can alert and automatically press on the brakes to stop the car before a collision happens. The system will only press the brakes in a detected emergency, but you do have the availability to alter settings as you see fit. Inside your Kia, you will see the setup on the steering wheel with the touchscreen, giving you the option that works best for the driver you are.
How it works
Your Kia is equipped with an advanced forward collision avoidance system that utilizes a front-facing camera and radar sensors. This dynamic duo works seamlessly to identify pedestrians, vehicles, cyclists, and other potential hazards near your moving vehicle. The wide-angle view of these cameras ensures detection even when making turns, acting as an additional set of eyes to enhance your safety.
This system provides real-time assistance by displaying icons, sounding alerts, or automatically applying brakes when it detects an object ahead. The innovative addition of a steering wheel alert ensures that you receive tactile feedback through vibrations if a collision is imminent.
Configuring the steering wheel settings is a straightforward process. Simply turn on your vehicle, navigate to the settings menu, select 'Vehicle,' and then choose 'Driver Assist' and 'Forward Safety.' You'll find three options to tailor the system to your preferences: 'Active Assist' engages automatic braking alongside alerts, 'Warning Only' issues alerts without brake intervention, and there's an 'Off' option for times when you prefer manual control.
Additionally, upon system restart, Kia Forward Collision Avoidance (FCA) will automatically activate. Kia.com highlights various settings within Forward Safety, including 'Basic Function,' 'Junction Turning,' 'Lane-Change Oncoming,' 'Lane-Change Side,' and 'Evasive Steering Assist' (if equipped), allowing you to customize the system to meet your specific needs.
Safety
Investing in cutting-edge technologies like this is a game-changer for the future of driving. It's truly impressive to witness the collective effort to enhance overall road safety. The addition of this innovative system acts as a constant second pair of eyes, offering not only peace of mind but also serving as a stress reliever with its alert capabilities. It's crucial to acknowledge that while this technology is highly effective, it's not infallible, and cannot guarantee the prevention of all crashes. Users must be mindful of the system's activation status, ensuring it is enabled for optimal safety. Take note that the system may not engage when traveling at speeds exceeding 50 mph. While technology proves invaluable, it's important to emphasize that it complements, but does not substitute, the need for responsible and safe driving practices.
