Once you've found the right car for you, it's time to talk about how to purchase it. There is a lot of information online about how to buy a new car, but what about buying a used car? It seems a little trickier, but we're here to walk you through a lot of the most common questions that arise during the buying process. Scroll down and you'll be able to walk onto the lot confident about the process and getting the right car every time.

What is the difference between a CPO and a Used Car?

Unlike your standard used car, a CPO, or Certified Pre-Owned, Kia undergoes a 164-point inspection and repairs are performed to factory requirements before they are eligible to be sold. This ensures that they are in top condition when they come to you. Additionally, most come with a warranty to provide you with additional peace of mind that if something does go wrong with your vehicle, we will step in to fix it. While the rest of our used cars don't get the full 164-point inspection, the OC Auto Team does make sure that all of our used cars, trucks, and SUVs are in good working order before we sell them. We also stand by every vehicle we sell, so if you have an issue down the road, please contact the dealership so we can help resolve your issue.

Can I get a Used Kia Warranty?

The quick answer is yes! There are several ways to get a warranty for your used Kia. The simplest is to buy from the original owner. The warranty that comes with all new Kia vehicles passes on to the second owner with some modifications. The standard limited powertrain warranty drops from 10-year/100,000-miles to 5-year/60,000-miles, but the other coverage is the same. As a reminder, the limited powertrain warranty provides coverage for vital powertrain components like the engine, transmission, axles, and driveshafts.

Here is a breakdown of the new owner versus second owner Kia Warranty:

New Kia Warranty Coverage

10-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty

5-year/60,000-mile limited basic warranty

5-year/100,000-mile limited anti-perforation warranty

5-year/60,000-mile roadside assistance plan

Kia Second Owner Warranty Coverage

5-year/60,000-mile limited powertrain warranty

5-year/60,000-mile limited basic warranty

5-year/100,000-mile limited anti-perforation warranty

5-year/60,000-mile roadside assistance plan

If you are not the second owner of your used Kia, you can still buy a warranty though Kia on qualified vehicles. You can check the Kia website for more information about the three different vehicle protection plans, but here is a quick rundown.

How does a Kia lease return work?

A new Kia lease lasts between 24 and 48 months. At the end of that period, you will need to decide to return or buy your leased vehicle. Mission Viejo Kia can help you with this process no matter where you originally leased the vehicle from. If you aren't sure when your lease began, contact us and we can find you that information or keep an eye on your mail for your lease end packet. This will come 4 months before your lease end with the details on the end of lease process.

The basics of ending your Kia lease are simple. Bring your Kia to the dealership where we will perform an inspection of the condition and mileage. The return parameters, including maximum mileage, were established in your initial lease documents and we recommend you consult those if you have questions. Assuming everything is in order, you will be asked if you would like to return your lease or purchase it. If you choose to return your leased Kia, then the process is over. The dealership will keep your car and you are free to purchase or lease a new one. If you decide to purchase your leased vehicle, then we will work with you to determine pricing and financing at the dealership. We are happy to walk you through either process if you have more detailed questions.

Just to be thorough, there is a third option with leased vehicles. It is possible to transfer your Kia lease if you have another party that would like to assume ownership, equity, and responsibility for it. The new party would begin their lease at the same point you left it and be responsible for the condition and mileage that you established when the lease originated. The lease duration would not start at the beginning.

How do I trade in my car?

If you are looking at a new car and want to trade in your existing vehicle, we've got you covered. There is a trade-in calculator online if you would like to ballpark the value of your vehicle, or you can come to the lot and get a more official estimate. Once we determine the value of your car, we can apply that toward the purchase price of a different new Kia or used car from our lot, or we can buy your vehicle from you directly.

Why buy a used car from a dealership?

When you look at the classifieds and see cars that are for sale by owner, it's tempting to compare that price to the ones you see in inventory at the dealership. Here are a couple things to think about when comparing a used car from a dealership and a private seller.

A car dealership like Mission Viejo Kia is an ongoing business that values you as a customer. They will be around the next time you are looking to buy a car, or when you are looking to service the one you have, and they want to ensure that they sell you a quality vehicle so you have a positive experience. It is very unlikely that you will buy from or even speak to that private seller ever again.

Used cars from Mission Viejo Kia have undergone an inspection at the dealership. If you are buying a car from a private party, we strongly recommend you have a private inspection done and that will add time and hassle to the buying process.

Mission Viejo Kia can handle financing in-house while you will have to find a loan through a third party, or pay cash, to a private seller. You can even prequalify online for financing at the dealership if you are interested in knowing what our rates look like.
