How Long Does The Warranty Last?

Car warranties operate for a set period of time or a set distance in miles. The typical auto warranty coverage is 3 years/36,000 miles. This means that the warranty would cover needed repairs in the first 3 years you own your car or for the first 36,000 miles you drive it, whichever comes first.

How Much Do Warranties Cost?

The cost of a new car warranty is built into the price of a new car. You should not have to pay extra for a warranty, unless you are opting for an extended warranty.

Different Types of Warranties

Comprehensive Warranty- This warranty covers all parts that were new in your car when you bought it.

Power train Warranty- This warranty covers the moving parts in the car and usually lasts several years

Restraint Systems Warranty- This warranty covers damages done to your car’s seat belts and airbags. Restraint systems warranties can vary considerably from one manufacturer to the other.

Corrosion Warranty- This warranty pays to replace body panels that have rusted through. More crucially, these warranties generally only cover body panels that have completely rusted through, with lesser corrosion not covered.

Emissions Warranty- An emissions warranty covers the components that limit your car’s emissions. These warranties are often complex, warranting some parts for shorter periods and others for longer periods. They can also vary from state to state. California, in particular, has more stringent requirements. Manufacturers often issue separate emissions warranties that give California residents longer protections.

Hybrid Component Warranty and EV Component Warranty- Warranties extend beyond gasoline vehicles. Hybrid and electric vehicle warranties often have the battery, motor, and other unique components found in an electric vehicle covered.

Car warranties are specific to certain parts of your car and don’t cover accidents or crashes. Abnormal use of the vehicle is not covered in the warranty.

Limited Basic Warranty- 5 years/60,000 miles All parts and systems of your vehicle are covered except exclusions listed in your warranty booklet, such as tires and parts with specific warranty coverage.

Paint Limited Warranty- 3 years/36,000 miles Paint that fades, chips, cracks, or becomes discolored is covered. This doesn’t include paint that is damaged in collisions.

Kia’s 10-Year, 100,000-Mile Powertrain Warranty- The Kia powertrain warranty covers your engine, axles, transaxle, transmission, differentials, and propeller shafts. These are some of the most important – and most expensive to repair – parts of your vehicle. This is a very generous warranty.

In addition to lengthy coverage, Kia Motors also gives owners emergency roadside assistance and trip protection benefits. Roadside assistance service plans are available for five years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first, and are limited to $75 per occurrence.
