Kia vehicles have some of the most popular driver assistance features that will help keep you safe on the road. One of those features is Kia Safe Exit Warning. Safe Exit Warning alerts the driver when there is an oncoming danger, and activates safety controls when opening vehicle doors. If there is a danger, a warning light on the side of the view mirror will start to blink. Simultaneously, a warning message will show up on an electronic cluster, paired with an audible sound that also serves to get the driver's attention. Your car needs to be going under the speed of 2 miles per hour and the speed of the approaching object coming from the rear has to be over 4 miles per hour.
If you have children in the backseat that you are worried will climb out of the car before you can assess whether it is safe or not, don’t worry! Kia has thought of it all. Safe Exit Warning is linked with an electronic child safety lock. When an electronic child safety lock is operating and a vehicle is coming from the rear area, the back doors of the car cannot be unlocked even if the driver attempted to unlock the back doors using the electronic child safety lock button. Again, warning lights will start blinking and a message will appear on the cluster.
If the driver happens to press the electronic child lock button again within 10 seconds after the warning message has appeared, Safe Exit Warning judges that the driver has unlocked the door and the door will open even if a car is still approaching. But this override helps to unlock the doors if there is no danger that the adult or driver has found. Remember to double check the car's surroundings before manually turning off the child safety lock.
If a rear door is opened from the outside, the door will open regardless of Safe Exit Warning operation. If the car has another safety feature operating at the same time with a warning going off, Safe Exit Warning’s messages may not be displayed along with the audible noise. Never fully depend on Safe Exit Warning as it cannot prevent every accident so even with Kia’s helpful technology, make sure to look around the car yourself before getting out. It’s important to note that Safe Exit Warning will not operate if there happens to be a problem with the Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Warning. Another nice feature of Kia’s Safe Exit Warning is even when the car is turned off, Safe Exit Warning will still be operating for 3 minutes but will turn off automatically when the doors are locked.
