An electric vehicle is powered by one or more electric motors for propulsion. Most are utilizing rechargeable lithium-ion batteries that are compact and have a very high energy density. Every year we see automakers add more EVs to their lineup. Electric vehicles are currently trending as they become the future of our world. By 2023, it is expected that 65% of car sales will be electric vehicles. Here are the top reasons to convert to driving an electric vehicle:
- Receive federal tax credits, rebates, and incentives for purchasing or leasing an EV
- Save on fuel and maintenance costs, plus utility rates
- Drive solo into the carpool lane
- Have more fun with higher performance
- Environmental and health benefits
Kia’s EV5 concept was announced in March 2023 and features a very futuristic design. It falls in the electric compact SUV category with single- and dual-motor options in addition to standard or long-range battery packs. It will be less sporty than Kia’s flagship EV6 although not as large as the newest Kia EV9. Finding the sweet spot between a massive SUV EV and a small EV is the void Kia is trying to fill with the EV5. This vehicle has been strategically built as a compact SUV featuring two rows. It is up to battling against Tesla’s Model Y, Chevrolet’s Blazer EV, Volkswagen’s ID4, and other competitors.
Kia EV5
Similar to the EV6 and EV9, the EV5 will be built on the E-GMP platform Kia utilizes. Due to its modular design, the platform will be adapted for the intended footprint of the EV5. This vehicle will use the same 76.1 kW battery that comes standard in the EV9. It will make its debut with a single motor producing roughly 215 horsepower. The estimated price range is sitting at a reasonable $45,000 to $60,000 range and is expected to launch in 2025.
As the Kia EV5 gets closer to launch, more information will become available regarding the power, performance, range, charging, battery life, interior comfort, safety, and more.
Kia plans to launch 11 new electric vehicles by 2026. With over 41,000 charging stations across the United States, and more to come, there is always an opportunity to charge mid-adventure. Kia’s industry-leading 10-year or 100,000-mile limited EV9 warranty includes the battery, therefore hopefully the EV5 will offer similar coverage. The Kia EV5 doesn’t get any better than this!
